Opening Reception: February 20, 6-8pm
It's Delicious is an exhibition featuring the work of Kenya Hanley and Yuki Matsuo at UTRECHT in Tokyo. The exhibition opens in conjunction with the recent release of Hanley's book, Tasty Reggae.
For the past decade, Hanley has devoted countless hours a day to meticulously drawing his two great loves: food and reggae musicians. His pages are filled with dripping sweets, junk food and traditional West Indian meals. Desmond Dekker, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and Shabba Ranks float in and out of his compositions. Hanley's images are often color-coded and labeled. They pay hommage to the food he grew up eating, the sweets he tries to stay away from, and the music he loves.
Featured alongside Hanley's work is Yuki Matsuo's "Yuki & Daughters," a project that has been ongoing since 2006. "Yuki and Daughters" is an imaginary grocer that makes delicious inedible foods. Matsuo makes everything from scratch with her own hands and heart.
LAND would like to send a special thanks to Yuki Matsuo for organizing this exhibition.
