Myasia Dowdell
Myasia Dowdell
Myasia Dowdell’s (b. 1989) work is equal parts imagination and careful observation. Dowdell alternates between naturalistic portraits of her favorite celebrities and cartoonish renderings of fantastic creatures, including her “seasonal sheep” - a character of her own invention with features that change with the seasons. Dowdell’s work is widely collected, with many of her portraits in the collection of Spike Lee. In 2016, Dowdell participated in the Ace Hotel's Artists in Residence Program. In 2018, Dowdell received the Wynn Newhouse award.
